The Land of Opportunity

Visiting Northern Alberta’s vast wilderness is an eye-opener for guests as they hardly believe what can be accomplished over a single weekend. Fish along the undeveloped shorelines of one of the area’s nine large lakes, all located within a 2.5 to 5 hour drive north of Edmonton. Pike, perch, walleye, burbot, whitefish and lake trout are the most common species. The fishing community’s enthusiasm continues throughout winter with close to 40 ice shacks on North Wabasca Lake alone!

Gather friends for a barbecue on the beach, quad along a trail into the unknown, or identify fresh wolf tracks as big as your face. Watch pelicans and eagles soar overhead by day, listen to loons and see northern lights by night; it’s all part of the 100% wild experience.

Six scenic camping areas are available throughout the region: Calling Lake Provincial Park Campground, Tanasiuk Recreation Area at Rock Island Lake, Wabasca Lions Club Campground, Peerless Lake Campground, Trout Lake Camping Area at the “Narrows”, and backcountry camping at Orloff Wildland Provincial Park.
